Executive Editor
As Executive Editor, I served as second in command to the Editor-in-Chief, determined the creative direction of the magazine, and finalized all editorial decisions. I also developed an editorial calendar with the managing editor and enforced deadlines for copy and print. With my team of 10 editors and over 30 writers, Jerk increased its publication from one issue a semester to two – the first time since 2017.
Senior Print Editor
I served as Senior Print Editor of Jerk Magazine the Fall semester of my junior year. As Senior Print Editor, I assisted the executive editors with editing, pitching, and assigning writers to articles. I also was the head editor for the opinion section “Bitch” and ran the Jerk Magazine Twitter account.
Horoscopes
Jerk Magazine’s horoscopes section is one of the most popular sections of the magazine and received special recognition from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Student Magazine Contest in 2020. As Jerk Magazine’s horoscope writer, I used my knowledge of popular culture, social media trends, and astrology to create one of a kind horoscopes.
